The Yafa Cultural Center in Balata refugee camp, Nablus, needs to raise $4,250 in order to participate in National Reading Week from April 1-7, 2014. All donations to LAP in the month of March will be donated to the Yafa Cultural Center.
We visited the Yafa Cultural Center on our 2013 delegation, and they do inspiring creative work with hundreds of children, including media work and library programs (they have their own community library). For National Reading Week, they will work with other local libraries in the West Bank to celebrate reading. They will host an exhibition of books, stories, and games. They will conduct workshops with parents and children on the importance of reading. They will visit a number of villages so young readers can meet each other and discuss books. They will participate in a reading-themed kite festival, and will host events for parents and children in honor of late Palestinian writer and activist Ghassan Kanafani. They hope to reach 1,000 children in the camp — let’s help them meet their fundraising goal of $4,250! Make your tax-deductible donation today! If you prefer to send a check, make it payable to “WESPAC Foundation,” with “LAP” written in the memo section, and mail to WESPAC Foundation, 52 North Broadway, White Plains, NY 10603.
